Game of Thrones fans eagerly awaiting the premiere of the new season in July can get their fix with a new tourism trail through Northern Ireland.
Northern Ireland is, of course, home not only to the actors behind some of the show's key characters (including Kristian Nairn, who played Hodor, Michelle Fairley, who played Catelyn Stark, and Conleth Hill, aka Lord Varys), but also some of its most recognisable filming locations.
Among these are the Dark Hedges of County Antrim (pictured above), better known to fans of the show as the Kingsroad. And so, when trees along the route were blown over during Storm Gertrude in January 2016, Tourism Ireland and Tourism Northern Ireland decided to put some of them to good use.
The result is the Journey of Doors, a series of 10 doors carved from the fallen trees and depicting key scenes and events from season six of Game of Thrones. Each has been installed in a pub or restaurant in Northern Ireland that's close to a filming location.
A Journey of Doors Passport has been produced, with information about each of the doors, along with details about nearby filming locations. It's available to download online, or you can pick up a copy at one of the 10 pubs and restaurants where the doors are located and get your passport stamped at each.
There are 25 publicly accessible Game of Thrones filming locations in Northern Ireland, along with various guided location tours and themed adventures such as archery, cycle tours, boat trips, banquets and even a chance to meet the direwolves.
There's also a free Game of Thrones Filming Locations Northern Ireland app for Apple and Android devices with information on the filming locations and the doors.
